GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. — After a year-long investigation, deputies have arrested two parents in a child abuse case involving an infant, Sheriff Danny H. Rogers announced.
On January 23, 2024, Guilford County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) deputies were called to a local hospital after reports of a possible child abuse case. When they arrived, hospital staff told them a 5-month-old baby had suffered physical injuries.
After months of investigating, authorities obtained arrest warrants in November 2024 for the child’s parents, 21-year-old Zowie Knight and 22-year-old Daniel Martin, charging them with Felony Child Abuse.
Deputies arrested the child’s father, Martin, on January 23, 2025, with help from the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office. On March 3, 2025, Guilford County deputies took Knight, the mother, into custody.
Officials in Guilford and Rowan counties said both parents bonded out of jail.
Because the victim is a juvenile, authorities are not releasing additional details about the case.

MN mother sentenced to 32 years after confessing to killing baby in hotel, dumping body – KARE11.com

MINNEAPOLIS — A Minnesota woman was sentenced to 32 years in prison after pleading guilty to killing her infant child and attempting to discard his body in a dumpster.
The sentence is an upward departure for Esperanza Harding, according to the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office.
“My thoughts are with Mateo’s family today,” said Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty in a statement.
Harding will get credit for the 366 days she has already served.
According to the charges, MPD officers were called to Children’s Hospital on March 6, 2024 on reports of a missing child.

A criminal complaint filed in the case states that upon arrival at the hospital, officers found then 20-year-old Harding, who claimed her child died of natural causes in the hospital on March 1 of that year. However, the hospital had no record of the child being admitted or dying in the hospital and the medical examiner’s office had no record of the child.
According to the criminal complaint, Harding allegedly provided the officers with inconsistent information, but officials said she finally went on to admit the child died in a Bloomington Hotel on Feb. 28, 2024.
The complaint states Harding told the officers that she was trying to take a bath on Feb. 28 when the baby began crying. The crying child upset Harding and she allegedly drowned the boy, before taking a picture of his body in the tub, which was recovered from her phone.
After the boy’s death, Harding told officers she wrapped up his body, put it in a backpack and threw it in a dumpster, the complaint states.
In a later interview with the Bloomington Police cited in the complaint, Harding claimed that the man she was dating, Edwin Trudeau, didn’t like her child and he wanted her to put the boy up for adoption. She allegedly texted Trudeau throughout the incident, including a message that read, “I’m about to do something bad, Please answer me, He going to no be here much longer.”
Trudeau visited Harding after the boy had been killed but did not call the authorities, according to his separate charging documents.
Trudeau has pleaded guilty to aiding an offender and will be sentenced in early May, said the attorney’s office.

15-year-old hospitalized after drive-by shooting in Florida City; neighbor’s home, children’s toys struck by bullets – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports | Fort Lauderdale

SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) – A drive-by shooting in Florida City sent a 15-year-old boy to the hospital and left gunshots in a neighbor’s home and children’s toys left out in the front.
Florida City Police and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units responded to the 1500 block of Northwest Fifth Avenue, Wednesday afternoon.
Upon arrival, officers found the teen suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg.
The teen was rushed to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital in Southwest Miami-Dade.
One neighbor who did not want to show his face on camera said he saw the whole incident unfold in broad daylight, including when the subject’s car pulled up and opened fire at the victim.
“The kid was coming up the street, walking over there on the sidewalk, and the car was coming up the street this way, and the car turned toward the little kid,” said the man. “They just went shooting at him. He got shot in the leg.”
He said the teenager wasn’t injured even more seriously because the shooter’s gun initially jammed.
“The gun jammed, and the little kid took off running. He ran right in front of us,” said the neighbor.
But he said the shooter quickly unjammed the gun and fired more bullets, striking the teen in the leg and hitting the wall of the neighbor’s house, including children’s toys out front.
The neighbor said the gunfire came inches from hitting him and other family members who were outside, including his young grandchild.
“It was like four this way, and like one, I think, that way. It was like five or six shots altogether,” said the neighbor.
The neighbor said he doesn’t know the teen who got shot, but he’s just glad to have all of his family members around him tonight.
“Still scared right now. Yeah, still scared. Thanking God for my family, thanking God for my family that we all was safe,” he said.
Paramedics airlifted the teen to the hospital, where he is recovering.
Gun violence has plagued the community for recent months.
In January, 13-year-old Johvan Taylor was shot and killed in the area of Northwest 13th Street and Sixth Avenue.
Two months earlier, less than a mile away, 9-year-old Antavious Scott was also fatally shot.
Officials and members of the community are pushing for tougher laws.
“We are making the moves we should be making,” said Florida City Mayor Otis T. Wallace. “But in Florida City and all over the country, gun violence is going to continue to occur until we enact stricter laws.”
As of Thursday afternoon, Florida City police say they do not have anyone in custody.
If you have any information on this shooting or the subjects’ whereabouts, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a reward of up to $5,000.

Trisha Paytas is expecting her third child!
The internet personality announced she’s pregnant with baby No. 3 in an Instagram post on March 6, cradling her belly as she posed with her husband, Moses Hacmon, and their two daughters, Malibu Barbie and Elvis.
“MAMMA MIA! HERE WE GO AGAIN! 😱 BABY #3 COMING JULY 2025,” she wrote in the caption, adding a baby emoji.
Paytas, 36, also shared the news in a TikTok with Hacmon and her two kids.
“Is she pregnant again?” text above Paytas dancing with her daughter reads, before Hacmon and Elvis jump in, holding ultrasound photos.
The text then changes to: “Baby #3 Coming July!!!”
Paytas, a longtime YouTuber known for her quirky, creative videos, shared more about her pregnancy in another TikTok posted on March 6 while she ate a bowl of pasta with Bolognese sauce.
“It was a surprise,” she said, explaining she had to have a hysterosalpingogram — a test that can help doctors diagnose problems with fertility, according to the Cleveland Clinic — before her two previous pregnancies.
“So with this third baby, we just thought we’d always had to get that test in order to get pregnant,” she said.
“And so this was a complete surprise. We had just had Elvis, so wasn’t even like we were that busy. So I don’t know, but it’s a blessing,” she added.
Paytas married Hacmon in 2021, and the pair welcomed their first child, Malibu Barbie, in 2022. Elvis, their second daughter, arrived in 2024. Paytas confirmed in the TikTok that her third baby will be her final pregnancy and that she’s “super excited.”
She also thanked her fans who have been respectful and waited for her to make the announcement, even though some people had been speculating due to her “belly on tour,” she said.
“Imagine if I wasn’t pregnant, and hearing all those — shout out to all the people who were just like, ‘Stop body-shaming.’ You guys had the right position,” Paytas said, “because even though I am pregnant, it is still a weird speculation.”
She added that she felt pressured by some fans to make the announcement at 17 weeks pregnant.
“I kind of wanted to wait a little bit more, because I am on tour right now,” she said. “I didn’t want people to think that, like, I wasn’t going to come to shows or something because I was pregnant.”
Paytas confirmed she will continue to perform through all the dates of The Eras of Trish Tour,” which is currently scheduled to run through June 8.
The mom of two made her Broadway debut in February in “Trisha Paytas’ Big Broadway Dream,” and spoke with TODAY.com ahead of the performance on what the moment meant to her after her nearly two decades of making content on the internet.
“I think I’ve showed so many different versions of me that were not me. And I think it was like a train wreck for a while, and people love a train wreck, but now I think it’s like just being myself has been the most rewarding, and people have been the most receptive to it,” she said. “So I think I was doing it wrong the whole time.”
